Web Hosting
“Web hosting services” are a collection of services that are necessary to host and publish a website. Most times, this looks like purchasing a domain (e.g. example.com), configuring the domain (setting up HTTPS, email servers, etc.), and placing all files necessary for the website onto a server. After the previous steps have been taken, a website is considered “live” and ongoing hosting services can begin. Ongoing hosting services tend to include things like uptime reporting and outage assistance (making sure the website is always live or working to get it back to live if there is an outage), keeping necessary components of the website up-to-date, and making small adjustments to the live website such as integrating new tracking services or adding a new admin to the website. The actual building of the website is a separate service that might be bundled into a web hosting agreement.
Web Development
The “Web Development” service is all about building the website that will assist in providing value to the end user (clients and customers). A good website is one that facilitates employee workflows and customer journeys without any unnecessary distractions. After a technical consultation, our team will know more fully what technologies and services would be helpful for your project. Building the website will follow an agreed upon development calendar where work is delivered in milestones. Once the full website is complete, one final round of review will make sure everything is polished and ready to send live. If web hosting is a bundled service, our team will do the final bit of work to deploy the website and begin routine maintenance.

First Principles Solutions (FPS) is a company founded on the idea that technical services can be effective without being over-engineered or buzzword-filled. Jonathan Moore (Founder and Owner) has spent nearly a decade both building websites as well as teaching adults the technical skills they need to do the same. While the need and the accessibility of technical services are greater now than ever before, the industry continues to be filled with providers who use jargon and obfuscation to drum up more business for themselves while making everything seem more complicated than it is.
The client experience at FPS is one of shared knowledge, experience, and effort. Principles of simplicity and efficiency guide what is made. Principles of honesty and integrity guide how things are done.
